Stable value is designed to do what its name suggests—maintain a stable value regardless of how the market performs in an effort to preserve savings. Using easy-to-understand language and concepts, our education helps explain the intricacies of this capital preservation investment.
Stable Value Investments
Helping to deliver stability
Stable value is designed to do just what its name suggests...
maintain a stable value regardless of how the market performs in an effort to preserve your savings
And it is only available to investors through an employer-sponsored retirement plan.
Here’s how it works
Income generating bonds and other fixed income investments
including ultra-short bonds, intermediate bonds, and short bonds
provide a diversified fixed income core
Investment wraps (investment contracts issued by insurance companies or banks) guarantee principal and accumulated interest on the bond investments if they were to decline in value, helping to maintain stability.
This has resulted in lower stability even when interest rates fluctuate.
What does this mean?
If the market drops, the bank and insurance investment contracts seek to ensure returns remain steady for your investment
resulting in stronger earning potential
Portfolio managers handle the heavy lifting behind the scenes while seeking to provide you with principal preservation, stable performance, and steady positive returns for your retirement savings.
Stable Value: helping to deliver stability
Stable value investments, while considered by many as ‘safe’ investments, involve investment and other various risks. You can lose money when investing in a stable value vehicle.
See the risk disclosure in the footer for a partial enumeration of these risks and carefully review your plan documents for a more comprehensive discussion of these risks.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Money Market and Stable Value portfolios have different risks including the possible loss of principal. It is important that you carefully review the legal documents for each type of vehicle to determine if it is appropriate for you prior to investment. Stable value portfolios are not money market portfolios. Although money market portfolios and stable value portfolios both seek to preserve principal, stable value portfolios employ a different structure and investment strategy which will cause its risk profile to differ from that of a money market portfolio. Some risks relevant to stable value investments include, but are not limited to, cash flow risk, contract risk and event risk.
